Template:Universal fire[edit]

The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of the template(s) or module(s) below. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page (such as the template's talk page or in a deletion review).

The result of the discussion was delete. plicit 00:46, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unused template that adds a citation relating to 2008 Universal Studios fire but not used on that article. Probably created in the wrong space. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 21:11, 17 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think you may be misinterpreting the intent of this template. If I understand correctly, it's designed to be substituted into articles on artists whose masters were destroyed in the fire, so I would expect it to have no transclusions. - Eureka Lott 02:57, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It actually isn't substituted. The article of the subject uses the exact citation in this template outside of template space seven times. It's listed as reference number 18. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 14:49, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This template has been substituted into a number of articles. Please see the articles for Sheryl Crow, Joe Jackson, Bob Hope, and The Roots, among others. - Eureka Lott 15:21, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think the reference can be better served without this format. All it does is state the name of the artist(s) and then "was among hundreds of artists whose material was destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire". Not a great way of adding the necessary information. I think repetition of this kind should be avoided as this should be included in the article as article text, not through substitution from template space. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 15:49, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment the embeded/transcluded reference uses an extremely bad name "Rosen2". That could easily conflict with something in the article this template is used on. If this is supposed to be a substitution template, it shouldn't be using {{PAGENAMEBASE}}, it should instead be using {{subst:PAGENAMEBASE}} and the documentation labelled with a {{subst only}}; or it should be coded to work with and without substitution, and when substituted, actually substitute in the pagename. -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 03:30, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment if this is kept, it should be renamed to something that makes more sense, like {{destroyed artefacts of the 2008 Universal Studios fire}} "universal fire" is horribly opaque -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 03:39, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was move to mainspace. Izno (talk) 00:26, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Unused and don't see a place for this to be used on Wikipedia. The only edits by the creator has just been working on this template. WikiCleanerMan (talk) 23:46, 17 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Move to articlespace This was originally created as an article, before it was moved into templatespace [1]. The talk page has a justification for moving it into templatespace, which I don't think works out. -- 65.92.246.142 (talk) 20:45, 20 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think so. A lot of this falls under OR in my view. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 20:35, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • As a template this is both unused and inappropriate storage of article text so should not remain a template. TfD should not generally be making content decisions that A lot of this falls under OR in my view, so I guess my preferred outcome is to move to mainspace and allow AfD to make that call, but I would also be okay with deleting under the principle that it's not appropriate to come up with contrived plans to rescue unused templates. * Pppery * it has begun... 03:07, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move to article space. This is an article. – Jonesey95 (talk) 04:46, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Subst to Pyrenees#Sports and leisure and let survive there by its own merit. Gonnym (talk) 11:09, 1 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • move back to article space. if someone wants to merge it with a section of Pyrenees, go ahead, but leaving an article-space redirect will assist with attribution. Frietjes (talk) 13:45, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Striking my above comment. Still voting to keep. The nomination is false. There are links to shows by the MLB Network on there. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 21:58, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
