Strategic Goal 1[edit]

Increase the quality and quantity of coverage of subjects that are currently underrepresented on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, with a particular focus on cultural content.

Outcomes[edit]

Uploaded 64 images so far for Wiki Loves Monuments 2018.
2 new pages created at the monthly Wiki Women in Red workshop on 16 August 2018: Dr. Mabel Jones (suffragette) and Signora Violante, rope-dancing performer. New page for mathematician Draft:Diane Maclagan has been drafted.
Attended first meeting on 24 August 2018 with Head of University of Edinburgh Archives, Rachel Hosker, and head of University of Edinburgh Museums, Jacky Macbeath, to discuss a Vote 100 exhibition to be launched in November/December 2018 which will make use of a Histropedia timeline of Scottish suffragettes on a smart table and involve further Vote 100 editathons later in the year. This may be the first of further Archive and Museum collaborations.

Trained three new attendees how to work with Wikidata and Histropedia.
Added 'Fellow of Royal Society of Edinburgh' to 2018 Female Fellows on Wikidata as the practical exercise.
Added Wiki Loves Monuments pics to Wikidata, visualised the descendents of Genghis Khan and King James VI, and added alumni for seven UK universities.
Met with Abd Alsattar, a Computer Science researcher at the University of Saint Andrews, with a view to discussing his project to create a system that would provide comprehensive support and an efficient online environment for translating Wikipedia articles. Abd interviewed me on my experiences working on the Translation Studies MSc course on 24 August 2018.

Projects/events in development[edit]

Working with Vicki Madden to organise a Mental Health Awareness event during Wellbeing Week (12-16 November 2018) at the University of Edinburgh. Also going to host Edinburgh Gothic 2018 on Robert Louis Stevenson Day - 13 November 2018.
Continuing to liaise with Hannah Evans at Wikimedia UK about the production of a new UK-based booklet of Wikipedia in the Classroom case studies.
Another iteration of the Wikipedia assignment in the Reproductive Biology Hons. course has been confirmed to go ahead in September 2018.
Another iteration of the Wikipedia assignment on the Translation Studies MSc course has been confirmed to go ahead in September 2018.
Wikipedia editing assignment for the Global Health MSc course - postponed until October 2018 due to Felix Stein working in Haiti at the moment.
A collaboration with Michael Seery at the School of Chemistry and the Royal Society of Chemistry to be confirmed.
Ada Lovelace Day 2018 is confirmed as going ahead at the School of Chemistry again in October 2018; working with Michael Seery and Jenni Garden. The focus this year will be on contemporary women in chemistry.
Awaiting word from Sara Mortsell at Wikimedia Sweden about her plan to collaborate on a Wikipedia in Education knowledge sharing exercise between Wikimedia Sweden, Stockholm University, the University of Edinburgh and Tel Aviv University.
The import of thesis collection data to Wikidata from the Edinburgh Research Archive is to go ahead now Library Developer Mike Bennett's contract is continuing. Completed necessary preparatory work; just awaiting Mike finishing developing the tool that converts ALMA library catalogue data into a Wikidata-friendly import.
Continuing to add more data to Wikidata from the Survey of Scottish Witchcraft database. More to be added at Wikidata's 6th Birthday celebration on 31 October 2018.
Liaising with Anne-Marie Scott, Stewart Cromar, Kirsty MacNab, Jacky MacBeath, Rachel Hosker and Navino Evans about two Vote 100 Wikipedia editathons later this semester to support a Library and University Collections exhibition.
Liaising with the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Digital Scholarship programme to run two workshops this semester: one on Wikipedia and one on Wikidata.
Discussing with Simon Cobb at Leeds Library and Hannah Evans at Wikimedia UK about a 'Wikidata and OpenRefine workshop' to be held later in the year.
Writing a case study for the upcoming publication (tentatively titled) New Case Studies of Openness in the Language Classroom.

Wikimedian in Residence - Youtube channel[edit]

The Wikimedian in Residence channel on Youtube which has now received over 41,387 views in total of its 68 videos with 191 subscribers (2,301 more views and 9,243 minutes watched approx. since last month with 10 more subscribers, 15 'likes', and 23 'shares' since last month). These videos have been viewed in 168 countries around the world over the course of the channel's lifetime. 149,475 minutes have now been watched since the channel started.
