Video game species such as Pokémon also fall under the scope of this project, both as individual species and related lists.
diffhistTalk:Eevee 14:20−1 39.50.250.162talk (Eevee is rated as mid in Nintendo how is Eevee high in overall gaming?)Tags: RevertedMobile editMobile web edit
diffhistTalk:Joel (The Last of Us) 14:12−1 39.50.250.162talk (Only appeared in two games (technically) and not really a recognizable character. A normal person would only know about him if they have ever heard of "The Last of Us" name otherwise no.)Tags: Mobile editMobile web edit
diffhistTalk:Aerith Gainsborough 14:02−1 39.50.250.162talk (Not worthy to be considered as high-importance. She is pretty much a secondary character in Final Fantasy games and is not that popular as compared to Tifa and Cloud.)Tags: Mobile editMobile web edit
diffhistTalk:Chun-Li 17:03−1 39.50.250.162talk (First lady of fighting games, inspired different female characters from different franchises even Jackie Chan has portrayed Chun-Li while mimicking her laugh in the movie City Hunter. Lastly, most popular female fighting game character as a whole.)Tags: Mobile editMobile web edit
diffhistTalk:Ryu (Street Fighter) 16:46−1 39.50.250.162talk (He is considered the epitome of fighting games, mascot of the Capcom video game company & has made 100 of crossover appearances (Also being the first fighting game character to be included in Smash Bros.). He is also really popular and recognizable in Japan. Would be fair enough to list him as among top characters.)Tags: Mobile editMobile web edit
Avoid writing overly detailed or "in-universe" text discussing a character in the main body. Consider that most people reading the article may not be aware of other characters in a franchise or the significance of certain events. When it doubt, Keep It Simple.
See Wikipedia:Notability (video game characters) for further information. Make notability apparent. Avoid trivial facts and listicles that say next to nothing about a character, and instead cite statements by the author discussing the character in the reception section. Demonstrate why they are important outside of their parent work.
If a character article does not meet notability, don't get immediately discouraged. Build your article on a sub page or draft, and if you feel sources may exist but you're not certain about them bring it up on the task force talk page and ask if anyone can help.
Stick to using sources not marked Unreliable by WP:VG/S, but also consider sources listed there may also have additional situational restrictions even if marked reliable.
Work through the current character articles and determine which may not meet notability as of July 2023, and either open a merge or deletion discussion as needed.
Map out a consistent manual of style for infoboxes for character articles within the WikiProject, and what In-Universe information can be omitted in most cases from the shared infobox template.
Create and maintain archive of video game character-related deletion discussions
Try to bring all current articles under the scope of this project to C-class or higher. As new articles are created, try to help them achieve this status if they meet notability.
Clean up a lot of the character lists that may have fallen into disarray over time, and consider any lists that may need creation.
Compile a reference archive of any other notable characters currently without articles we may want to someday explore as full articles, or past subjects that may now meet notability.
Anyone who wishes to improve articles related to video game characters is welcome to join. Feel free to indicate your participation by adding your name to this list, along with any specific areas of interest.
