Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?

As a resident of the East Village, I cannot express enough just how important and significant it would be to have a WikiProject dedicated to this exceptional neighborhood (one that comes with immense significance across numerous cultural and societal shifts within, not only the United States, but the world as a whole. As this neighborhood slowly shifts into a new era, undeniably plagued by the repercussions of continued gentrification and attack on housing rights, it is important to have a group dedicated solely to the focus of this neighborhood. There will be an abundance of work ahead, as not only does this neighborhood continue to shape the national conversation, through mainly artistic avenues, but it’s past is rich and vibrant - requiring it to be aggressively protected from article vandalism and inaccurate information through poor sourcing and malicious editing. This neighborhood stands proudly as the old stomping ground of the late-great Andy Warhol, the inspiration and subject of the legendary Physical Graffiti album cover, the site of horrendous disaster like the 2015 East Village gas explosion and the place where youth stood their ground against the over exercising of power by the government in the lives of the cities residents during the 1988 Tompkins Square Park riot.

I ask you to please grant my beautiful neighborhood a WikiProject, and allow us to unify under the common cause of maintaining the absolute truth that Wikipedia has come to have great reputation in providing. But in a way where we can come together focussed on doing our part to achieve that ultimate goal, by protecting the small slice of it that is our home.. and an iconic cultural domain.

Thank you.

Oppose[edit]

  1. Oppose: As per discussion, I deem topic like East Village to be fortunate to have a dedicated TaskForce for itself, WikiProject is completely unnecessary. Not enough articles, and dedicated users. ExclusiveEditor Notify Me! 16:34, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

  • I believe you would have better success with a Task Force under the active WikiProject New York City. There just simply aren't enough pages for the area of East Village nor interest I see to justify a full-fledged WikiProject. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 16:09, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I see what you’re saying. Thank you for your input! I’m going to look into that right now. 4theloveofallthings (talk) 01:01, 18 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
