Description[edit]

Matamoros, officially known as Heroica Matamoros (Heroic Matamoros), is a city in the northeastern part of Tamaulipas, in the country of Mexico. It is located on the southern bank of the Rio Grande, directly across the border from Brownsville, Texas, in the United States. It is one of the fastest growing cities and economies in the country, and played a major role in the Mexican War of Independence, the Mexican Revolution, the Texas Revolution, the Mexican American War, the American Civil War, and the French Intervention in Mexico—it is also one of the major hotspots on Mexico's war on drugs.
