Description[edit]
A Wikiproject (or task-force) to cover articles on windmills (including wind turbines), watermills, animal engines, millwrights and other associated subjects. The Wikiproject/task-force could be a child of the Historic sites, Energy, Architecture and Technology Wikiprojects Mjroots (talk) 10:45, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The possibility of having a Task Force within wp:HSITES is being discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Historic sites#Proposed Mills task force. Is it so important for your idea, Mjroots, to cover non-historic mills? How many non-historic mills, if any, do you want to cover in the wikiproject idea? If it is just a handful, do you object so much to having a Task Force within wp:HSITES plus just those few articles lacking the Task Force banner? doncram (talk) 11:02, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- As I have said elsewhere. Wind-driven agricultural mills are a small subset of the topic of mills. There are 1112 textile mills in Greater Manchester alone Williams & Farnie 1992, p. 198 harvnb error: no target: CITEREFWilliamsFarnie1992 (help). - See Mills, the lead reads Mills is the plural of mill. Thus showing the primary usage of the word. What other word would one use to describe a Wikiproject that covers windmills, watermills, cotton mills, horse mills etc.? Mjroots (talk) 05:33, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Isn't the phrase "textile mill" just an accident of language, though? I mean, really they are factories, nothing is milled there in the sense of being ground, which is where the "mill" part of windmill and watermill comes from. - Mills can be described by their power source - windmill, water mill, steam mill, horse mill. The can also be described by their function - fulling mill, grinding mill, saw mill, carding mill, beetling mill etc, and they can be described by their finished product - flour mill, paper mill, cotton mill, textile mill, oil mill.
