Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Maintenance guide

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Members of Wikipedia's National Register of Historic Places project take on, among other activities, a variety of tasks that maintain the lists and articles within its scope. This is a guide to documentation on how to perform some of these activities.

Processing weekly updates[edit]

The National Park Service publishes updates to the National Register on a roughly weekly basis. Found here, the updates consist of a number of different actions, including the addition of new listings, removal of existing listings, and updates to existing listings. See the weekly list processing page for detailed instructions on how to propagate this information into Wikipedia's pages.

NationalRegisterBot[edit]

NationalRegisterBot is a bot that performs a number of semi-automated tasks. These include adding and removing the {{NRIS-only}} template from article pages based on a simple automated assessment, and the updating of the project's list of duplicates. The latter process is also used to highlight reference numbers that may have been incorrectly duplicated.

NationalRegisterBot is operated by experienced bot operators: see User:NationalRegisterBot for further information.

Updating project statistics[edit]

The project's main statistics page is at Wikipedia:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Progress, where status on creating and improving articles, and providing images of listed properties, is maintained. That page is updated by scripts; see the instructions page for details on how to use them.
