The railroad of the Apalachicola Northern Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in northwestern Florida. The main line extends southerly from River Junction to Port St. Joe, 95.627 miles, with a branch from Franklin to Apalachicola, 3.095 miles, totaling 98.722 miles of first main track. The carrier also owns 9.136 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 107.858 miles of all tracks owned and used.

The carrier has joint use of the terminal facilities and about 0.11 mile of main track at River Junction, owned by the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Company. It operates the property of the Port St. Joe Dock and Terminal Railway Company, as agent for the owner, and also operates its passenger trains from River Junction, Fla., to Climax, Ga., about 30 miles, over tracks of and as agent for the Atlantic Coast Line. On the other hand, the carrier grants trackage rights over portions of its main line to lumber companies. Further information will be found in Appendix 2, under the caption Leased Railway Property.

The portion of the line extending from Franklin to Port St. Joe, also the docks and wharves at Port St. Joe, were constructed by the Morey-Faulhaber Construction Company. A member of that company, E. A. Faulhaber, was then a director of the carrier.
