The Arnot and Pine Creek Railroad[edit]

Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of The Arnot and Pine Creek Railroad Company, herein called the Arnot and Pine Creek, is a single-track line, located entirely within the State of Pennsylvania and extends from Arnot to Hoytville, 11.867 miles. This property forms a part of the main line between State Line Junction near Elmira, N. Y., and Hoytville, Pa.

Introductory[edit]

The Arnot and Pine Creek is a corporation of the State of Pennsylvania, having its principal office at Blossburg, Pa. The accounting records obtained of the Arnot and Pine Creek cover only the period from the date of its organization to January, 1883. Therefore, only partial information can be given from its accounts regarding its financial dealings, corporate operations, or investments. However, certain data indicated hereinafter were obtained from a balance sheet statement as of date of valuation, certified by the comptroller of the company, filed with this commission.

The Arnot and Pine Creek is controlled by the Erie through ownership of its entire outstanding capital stock. The records reviewed do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation. The property of this company was operated by the Tioga Railroad from the date its property was placed in operation, July 1, 1882, to about 1885. From the latter date to December, 1895, the property was operated by the New York, Lake Erie and Western and its receivers. From the latter date to December 31, 1917, the property was operated by the Erie. The common-carrier property of the company was taken over for operation by the United States Railroad Administration on January 1, 1918, as part of the system of the Erie, and it is so operated on date of valuation.

Corporate History[edit]

The Arnot and Pine Creek was incorporated January 12, 1881, under the general laws of Pennsylvania to construct and operate a railroad from Arnot to a point near Woodlawn Tanning on Bobbs Creek, in Tioga County, Pa. The date of its organization was February 9, 1881.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The owned mileage of the Arnot and Pine Creek, extending from Arnot to Hoytville, Pa., 11.867 miles, was constructed by The Blossburg Coal Company for the Arnot and Pine Creek, during the period fron[sic] 1881 to 1883. There is a difference of 0.017 mile between the mileage recorded by this company, 11.884 miles, and the mileage, 11.867 miles, inventoried as of date of valuation.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The common-carrier property of the Arnot and Pine Creek is operated on date of valuation by the United States Railroad Administration as part of the system of the Erie.
