Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The property of The Baring Cross Bridge Company, hereinafter called the Baring Cross Bridge Company, consists of a single-track combination railroad and highway bridge across the Arkansas River between Baring Cross and Little Rock, Ark., 0.204 mile in length.

Introductory[edit]

The Baring Cross Bridge Company is a corporation of Arkansas, having its principal office at Little Rock, Ark. The accounting records of the Baring Cross Bridge Company were not obtained. Such data as are given herein were obtained from records in possession of the Missouri Pacific. The Baring Cross Bridge Company is not controlled by any individual or corporation. Records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation. The property was operated by its own organization from the date of its completion in 1874 to December 31, 1880. From January 1, 1881, to December 31, 1917, it was operated by the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway Company and its successor, the Missouri Pacific. Since January 1, 1918, it has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as a part of the operating unit of the Missouri Pacific.

Corporate History[edit]

The Baring Cross Bridge Company was incorporated April 8, 1873, under the general laws of Arkansas for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad and highway bridge across the Arkansas River at Little Rock, Ark. The date of organization was not determined.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The bridge of this company was constructed during 1873 and 1874 under contract with L. Van Antwerp. The track was laid on the bridge during the same period.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The entire property is leased to the Missouri Pacific for a term of 50 years from January 1, 1881, under a lease acquired from the St. Louis, Iron Mountain and Southern Railway Company. The terms of the lease and the rental accrued for the seven months ended December 31, 1917, are given in the report on the Missouri Pacific.
