Corporate History and Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The Brandon, Devils Lake & Southern was incorporated under the general laws of North Dakota on July 17, 1905. Its principal office is at St. Paul, Minn.

The property of the company, previously described, was constructed by A. Guthrie & Company, general contractors, of St. Paul, Minn., which company also constructed a 30-mile connecting line for the Farmers' Grain & Shipping Company immediately prior to the time the Brandon, Devils Lake & Southern line was built. The right of way of the latter [company's] line was procured in the summer of 1905, grading was commenced and finished in the summer of 1905, and tracklaying was commenced September 29, 1905, and finished October 13, 1905.

The Brandon, Devils Lake & Southern owns a majority of the outstanding shares of capital stock of the Farmers' Grain & Shipping Company, and all of that company's outstanding bonds. The capital stock of the Brandon, Devils Lake & Southern is, in turn, owned by the Great Northern, which exercises control over both the Farmers' Grain & Shipping Company and the Brandon, Devils Lake & Southern and was instrumental in creating the latter.
