Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated on September 1, 1905, under the general laws of the State of Missouri for a period of 50 years. Its stated purpose was to construct, maintain, and operate about 13 miles of standard-gauge railroad in Butler County, Mo., from Lowell Junction to Melville. Its charter was subsequently amended to provide for the extension of the road to the boundary line between the States of Missouri and Arkansas and on August 12, 1913, the State of Arkansas authorized its extension from the latter point to Piggott, Ark., a distance of about 11.25 miles. Its principal office is at Poplar Bluff, Mo. The detailed facts as to the development of fixed physical property will be found in Appendix 2.
