Campbell Hall Connecting Railroad[edit]

Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of the Campbell Hall Connecting Railroad Company, herein called the Campbell Hall Connecting, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, extending from the New York-New Jersey State line, near Liberty Corners, to Pine Island Junction, N. Y., 4.082 miles.

Introductory[edit]

The Campbell Hall Connecting is a corporation of the State of New York, having its principal office at New York, N. Y. The accounting records of the Campbell Hall Connecting, covering the period from the date of its organization to January 2, 1910, were not obtained. Therefore, only partial information can be given from the accounting records regarding its financial dealings, investments, and original cost. The accounting data in this report were obtained from records that cover the period from January 3, 1890, to date of valuation.

The Campbell Hall Connecting is controlled by the carrier through ownership of a majority of its outstanding capital stock. On the other hand, the records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation.

The property of the Campbell Hall Connecting was operated by the Pennsylvania, Poughkeepsie and Boston Railroad Company from the date of its completion, until the effective date of reorganization of that company, and from that date until December 31, 1917, by its successor, the carrier. On January 1, 1918, the property of the Campbell Hall Connecting was taken over for operation by the United States Railroad Administration, which still operates it on date of valuation.

Corporate History[edit]

The Campbell Hall Connecting was incorporated April 3, 1889, under the general laws of the State of New York, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from a point on the New Jersey-New York State line, at or near Liberty Corners, N. Y., to Campbell Hall, N. Y., about 18 miles.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The owned mileage of the Campbell Hall Connecting, extending from Liberty Corners to Pine Island Junction, N. Y., 4.082 miles, was constructed by John C. Stanton for this company, during the years 1889 and 1890.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The entire property of the Campbell Hall Connecting is leased to the carrier for an indefinite period from January 1, 1908. The terms of the lease and the rental accrued for the year ended December 31, 1917, are given in the chapter on leased railway property in the report on the latter company.
