The railroad of Chesapeake Western Railway, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in the northwestern part of Virginia. The owned mileage extends westwardly from Bridgewater to North River Gap, Va., a distance of 13.570 miles. The carrier also owns yard and side tracks totaling 2.365 miles. Its road thus embraces 15.935 miles of all tracks.


Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated March 3, 1900, by special act of Virginia as the Tidewater and West Virginia Railroad Company. Its name was changed to the present designation on March 12, 1901, by order of the Circuit Court of Richmond, Va. Its organization was perfected on March 6, 1901. The carrier is controlled by W. E. D. Stokes through ownership of the entire outstanding capital stock. The detailed facts as to the development of the fixed physical property are given in Appendix 2.
