Columbus and Erie Railroad[edit]

Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of the Columbus and Erie Railroad Company, herein called the Columbus and Erie, is a branch line, located entirely within the State of Pennsylvania, and extends from the New York-Pennsylvania State line near Niobe Junction, N. Y., to Columbus Junction, 13.022 miles, of which 1.415 miles is double-tracked.

Introductory[edit]

The Columbus and Erie is a corporation of the State of Pennsylvania, having its principal office at Scranton, Pa. It is controlled by the Erie through ownership of its entire outstanding capital stock. The records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation.

The property of the Columbus and Erie was operated by the Erie from the date of completion thereof to December 31, 1917. The property was taken over for operation by the United States Railroad Administration on January 1, 1918, as a part of the system of the Erie, and it is so operated on date of valuation.

Corporate History[edit]

The Columbus and Erie was incorporated September 5, 1905, under the general laws of the State of Pennsylvania, for the purpose of constructing, maintaining, and operating a railroad from the New York-Pennsylvania State line, near Niobe Junction, N. Y., to Columbus, Pa. The date of organization was September 9, 1905.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The owned mileage of the Columbus and Erie, extending from the New York-Pennsylvania State line to Columbus Junction, Pa., 13.022 miles, was constructed by the Erie for the Columbus and Erie during the period from March, 1906, to December, 1908. The foregoing mileage was recorded by the Columbus and Erie as 13.018 miles, there being a difference of 0.004 mile between the recorded mileage and the mileage inventoried as of date of valuation.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The Columbus and Erie's property was solely operated by the Erie, as herein before explained, from the date of completion to December 31, 1917, by virtue of stock control. From January 1, 1918, to date of valuation the property of the company has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as a part of the system of the Erie.
