The Concho, San Saba and Llano Valley Railroad[edit]

Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of The Concho, San Saba and Llano Valley Railroad Company, hereinafter called the Concho, San Saba and Llano Valley, which is leased to and operated by the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in the west-central part of Texas. The owned mileage consists of two branch lines, one of which extends from Miles to Paint Rock, a distance of 16.579 miles, and the other from San Angelo to Sterling City, a distance of 42.996 miles, making an aggregate of 59.575 miles of first main track.

Introductory[edit]

The Concho, San Saba and Llano Valley is a corporation of the State of Texas, having its principal office at Miles, Tex. It is controlled by The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company through ownership of its entire outstanding capital stock. On the other hand, the records do not indicate that this company itself controls any other carrier corporation.

The property of the Concho, San Saba and Llano Valley was operated by its own organization from the time the first section of road was placed in operation, December 27, 1909, until July 1, 1914. From the latter date to date of valuation it has been operated under lease by the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe.

Corporate History[edit]

The Concho, San Saba and Llano Valley was incorporated under the provisions of chapter 1, title 94, of the Revised Statutes of Texas on April 2, 1909, for a period of 50 years. Its stated purpose was to construct, own, maintain, and operate a standard-gauge steam railroad to extend from a point near the center of Concho County, Tex., in a general northwesterly direction to a point near the southeast corner of Lubbock County, Tex., and from San Angelo, Tex., in a general southerly direction to a point on the boundary line between Tom Green and Schleicher Counties, in all about 224 miles.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The property owned by the Concho, San Saba and Llano Valley was constructed with its own forces and by contractors not affiliated with the company. The statement following shows the termini of the two sections, the dates construction was commenced, the dates the sections were placed in operation, and the approximate mileage:

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The railroad of the Concho, San Saba and Llano Valley is being used on date of valuation by the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe under lease for sole operation for a term of 10 years from July 1, 1914. The lease provides that the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe shall pay for such use—

  • Rental of $52,000 per annum.
  • Interest at 6 per cent per annum on the cost of additions and betterments.
  • Interest on any indebtedness incurred by the lessor with written consent of the lessee.
  • Taxes, assessments, and governmental charges which shall accrue under any lawful authority.
  • All rentals or other sums for which the lessor shall become liable under any agreement existing July 1, 1914.
  • All expenses necessarily incurred by the lessor for the purpose of maintaining and perpetuating its organizations.

For the use of its property for the year ending on date of valuation, the Concho, San Saba and Llano Valley has received $52,006.57.
