The railroad of The Cumberland Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a standard-gauge single-track steam railroad, comprising 13.092 miles of main track and 4.277 miles of yard track and sidings, aggregating 17.369 miles of all tracks owned, located wholly within the State of Kentucky. It consists of a main line from Artemus to Anchor, a distance of about 11.5 miles and a branch from Lunsford to Wheeler, about 1.5 miles.
Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated July 15, 1902, under the general laws of the State of Kentucky, with principal office in Barbourville, Ky. The purpose was to construct, operate, and maintain a line of railroad from a point on the line of Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company near Artemus, Ky., to Jellico, on the Kentucky-Tennessee State line, a distance of about 35 miles.
