The railroad of Due West Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad located entirely within the State of South Carolina. Its owned mileage extends from Donalds to Due West, a distance of 4.548 miles. The carrier also owns 0.231 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 4.779 miles of all tracks owned.


Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated January 16, 1907, under the laws of the State of South Carolina, for the purpose of building, equipping, and operating a railroad from Due West to Donalds. The principal office of the carrier is at Due West. The detailed facts as to the development of the fixed physical property are given in Appendix 2.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road owned and operated by the carrier on the date of valuation was constructed by it, work having been commenced in March, 1907, and the line opened for operation December 24, 1907. The grading of the entire road was done under contract by W. O. Willard, and the track was laid under contract by P. P. Lawrence, the remainder of the work being done by the carrier's own forces.
