Introductory[edit]

The Easton and Northern is a corporation of the State of Pennsylvania, having its principal office at Philadelphia, Pa. It is controlled by the Lehigh Valley, through ownership of the entire outstanding capital stock. On the other hand, the records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation. The property of the Easton and Northern has always been operated by the Lehigh Valley.

Corporate History[edit]

The Easton and Northern was incorporated May 28, 1889, under the general laws of the State of Pennsylvania, for the purpose of constructing, operating, and maintaining a railroad between Easton and Belfast Junction, Pa. The date of organization of the Easton and Northern was May 29, 1889.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The owned mileage of the Easton and Northern, 12.79 miles, was all acquired by construction which began in 1890. The records reviewed do not show date of completion. The mileage constructed and the termini are further detailed as follows:

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The property of the Easton and Northern has been operated by the Lehigh Valley from the date it was opened for operation to date of valuation. The Lehigh Valley makes no accounting to the Easton and Northern for the results from these operations, but merges the revenues and expenses with those from its own operations.
