The railroad of the Flint Belt Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a standard-gage, steam railroad, located within the State of Michigan. The main line, part of which is double-tracked, extends southerly from McGrew, through the eastern outskirts of the city of Flint, to Atwood Junction, a distance of 8.071 miles. The carrier also owns 3.356 miles of second main track and 3.253 miles of yard tracks arid sidings. Its road thus embraces 14.680 miles of all tracks owned and used.

The carrier is controlled by the Pere Marquette Railway Company and forms a connecting link between the latter's lines at McGrew and Atwood Junction for through freight movements through the city of Flint. The Pere Marquette Railway Company has trackage rights over the entire line.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated June 6, 1921, under the general laws of Michigan, for the purpose of acquiring and operating railroad property within or without the State of Michigan. The date of organization was June 13, 1921.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road, all owned, of 8.071 miles, extending from Atwood Junction to McGrew, near Flint, Mich., was all acquired by construction under our authority, 70 I.C.C. 292. Work began in August 1921, and was completed and the line opened for operation June 5, 1923. It was constructed by the Dominion Construction Company, general contractors, under contract dated August 10, 1921. Important interlocking plants were built by the Federal Signal & Construction Company, and the towers by Mathias & Johnson. The records do not indicate that any of the contractors were affiliated with the carrier.
