The railroad of Fourche River Valley and Indian Territory Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad located in Perry and Pulaski Counties, Ark. The owned mileage extends in a generally westerly direction from Bigelow to Thornburg, Ark., a distance of 18.649 miles. The carrier also owns yards and sidetracks totaling 2.882 miles. Its road thus embraces 21.531 miles of all tracks owned. In Appendix 1 will be found a general description of the property of the carrier.


Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated on October 28, 1905, under the general laws of Arkansas, for a term of 50 years. Its principal office is at Bigelow, Ark. The carrier was organized in the interest of Fourche River Lumber Company, for the purpose of constructing, owning, and maintaining a railroad at Bigelow, Ark., and proceeding westwardly on the south side of the Fourche la Fave River to the county line separating Perry and Yell Counties at a point 3 miles south of the post office of Jennings Falls, all in Perry County, and to be 44 miles in length. The Fourche River Lumber Company controls the carrier through ownership of its entire capital stock. Further details as to the development of the fixed physical property of the carrier are given in Appendix 2.

APPENDIX 2
DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

A portion of the railroad of the carrier was built by its own forces and a portion was purchased from the Fourche River Lumber Company. Beginning at a point west of Rankin, in August, 1905, the carrier graded about 11 miles of road terminating at a point east of Thornburg, Ark., and by November, 1907, had constructed 6.9 miles of completed railway to Bellevue. The graded right of way between Bellevue and the point near Thornburg reverted to the Fourche River Lumber Company. In the meantime, during August, 1906, the carrier purchased from the Fourche River Lumber Company 6.5 miles of road, between Bigelow and a point west of Rankin that had been built by the latter. Later, in December, 1914, it purchased from the Fourche River Lumber Company 5.6 miles of road between Bellevue and Thornburg, this being a railroad built by the Fourche River Lumber Company upon the graded right of way that had reverted to it. All the rails in the last-mentioned piece of property were not acquired by the carrier. Some 250 tons are the property of The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company, and are leased by that company to the Fourche River Lumber Company which, in turn, grants the use of them to the carrier.
