Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of The Garden City, Gulf and Northern Railroad Company, hereinafter called the Garden City, Gulf and Northern, is a single-track line, located entirely within the State of Kansas and extending from Scott City to Garden City, a distance of 37.335 miles.

Introductory[edit]

The Garden City, Gulf and Northern is a corporation of the State of Kansas, having its principal office at Garden City, Kans. It is controlled by the Santa Fe through ownership of about 98 per cent of its capital stock. On the other hand, the records reviewed indicate that the company itself does not control any other common-carrier corporation. The property of the Garden City Gulf and Northern has always been operated under lease by the Santa Fe.

Corporate History[edit]

The Garden City, Gulf and Northern was incorporated January 4, 1907, under the general laws of the State of Kansas.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The mileage owned by the Garden City, Gulf and Northern, amounting to 37.335 miles, was constructed for it by the Kansas Construction & Irrigation Company. The construction work was begun in 1907, and the road was completed and placed in operation early in 1910. The affiliation, if any, that existed between the Garden City, Gulf and Northern and the Kansas Construction & Irrigation Company has not been ascertained from the records reviewed.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The entire property of the Garden City, Gulf and Northern is leased to the Santa Fe for a term of 15 years from July 1, 1911. The terms of the lease are given in the section on leased railway property in the report on the Santa Fe.
