Genesee Falls Railway

Introductory

The Genesee Falls Railway is a corporation of the State of New York, having its principal office at Rochester, N.Y. The Genesee Falls Railway maintained no organization from January 20, 1887, the date it leased its property to The New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company (first corporation), to date of valuation. Subsequently thereto, Alfred H. Smith became acting president and Dwight W. Pardee acting secretary, with offices in the Grand Central Terminal, New York City.

No accounting records of the Genesee Falls Railway were obtained. Therefore, no information can be given from its accounts regarding its financial dealings, corporate operations, or investments. Certain information stated below was obtained from the accounting records of the lessee and from agreements and other papers on file. The records reviewed do not indicate whether the Genesee Falls Railway is controlled by any individual or corporation, or, on the other hand, whether it controls any common-carrier corporation. The Genesee Falls Railway has not filed any reports with this commission.

The property of the Genesee Falls Railway was operated by The New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company (first and second corporations) from October 7, 1886, the date the road was placed in operation, until December 23, 1914, and from that date to date of valuation it has been operated by the New York Central.

Corporate History

The Genesee Falls Railway was incorporated May 25, 1886, under the general laws of the State of New York, to continue in existence for a period of 50 years, for the purpose of constructing a railroad from a point at or near the intersection of the track of The New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company (first corporation) with the east bank of the Genesee River in the city of Rochester, N.Y., to a point about 100 feet south of Vincent Place in said city, a distance of 0.514 mile. The date of organization of the Genesee Falls Railway has not been ascertainable from the records reviewed.

Development of Fixed Physical Property

The owned mileage of the Genesee Falls Railway, extending from the main line of The New York Central to Breweries, all in the city of Rochester, N.Y., a distance of 0.514 mile, was constructed by The New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company (first corporation) for the Genesee Falls Railway, during the year 1886.

Leased Railway Property

The entire property of the Genesee Falls Railway is leased to The New York Central from January 20, 1887, during the corporate existence of the Genesee Falls Railway, at a nominal rental consideration of $1 per annum.
