Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of The Goshen and Deckertown Railway Company, herein called the Goshen and Deckertown, is a single-track branch line, located entirely within the State of New York and extends from Goshen to Pine Island, 11.678 miles.

Introductory[edit]

The Goshen and Deckertown is a corporation of the State of New York, having its principal office at Goshen, N. Y. The records reviewed do not indicate that this company is controlled by any individual or corporation, or that it controls any other common-carrier corporation. The property of the Goshen and Deckertown was operated by its own organization from the date it was completed about 1869 until January 31, 1872. From February 1, 1872, to May 31, 1878, it was operated by the Erie Railway Company and its receivers. From June 1, 1878, to November 30, 1895, it was operated by The New York, Lake Erie and Western Railroad Company and its receivers, and from December 1, 1895, to December 31, 1917, it was operated by the Erie. The common-carrier property of this company was taken over for operation by the United States Railroad Administration on January 1, 1918, as a part of the system of the Erie, and it is so operated on date of valuation.

Corporate History[edit]

The Goshen and Deckertown was incorporated March 18, 1868, under the general laws of New York, for the purpose of constructing, maintaining, and operating a railroad from the village of Goshen, N. Y., to a point on the New York-New Jersey State line in Orange County, N. Y. The date of organisation of the company was not determined.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The owned mileage of the Goshen and Deckertown, amounting to 11.678 miles, was constructed for the company by C. Douglass, J. H. McLane, and A. B. Post, independent contractors, during the years 1868 and 1869. There is a difference of 0.022 mile between the mileage recorded by this company, 11.700 miles, and the mileage, 11.678 miles, inventoried as of date of valuation.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The property of the Goshen and Deckertown was solely operated by the Erie or its predecessors and their receivers from February 1, 1872, to December 31, 1917, under lease agreement dated February 1, 1872. From January 1, 1918, to date of valuation the property of this company has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as a part of the system of the Erie.
