The railroad of The Greene County Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, owns and operates a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad located within the northern section of Georgia and extending from Apalachee to Monroe, Ga., a distance of 18.828 miles. Yard tracks and sidings aggregate 1.339 miles and all tracks owned by the carrier 20.167 miles.

Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated on July 27, 1911, under the general laws of the State of Georgia. On August 1, 1911, it purchased from the Guarantee Trust and Banking Company of Atlanta, for $6,050, the property rights and franchises of the Bostwick Railroad Company, concerning which no records could be found. The railroad mileage acquired embrace about 6 miles of road between Apalachee and Bostwick. The rail on this part of the line belonged to the Central of Georgia Railway Company and was purchased by the carrier for $6,495.62. The carrier built the remaining 14 miles of its line, of which 7 miles between Bostwick and Good Hope were opened for operation during September, 1912, and the remaining 7 miles between Good Hope and Monroe in June, 1914.
