Introductory[edit]

No accounting records of the Home Avenue Railroad were obtained except some incomplete data relating to the costs of land. Therefore, complete information cannot be given from its accounts regarding its financial dealings, corporate operations, or investments. However, certain data indicated below were obtained from the records of its lessees and from other sources.

The Home Avenue Railroad is a corporation of the State of Ohio, having its principal office at Dayton, Ohio.

The records reviewed do not indicate that the Home Avenue Railroad was controlled by any individual or corporation on the date of valuation, nor, on the other hand, that it controls any common-carrier corporation.

The record reviewed does not show how the property was operated before 1882. It was operated under a contract by the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad Company and its successor, The Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railway Company, from some date, not determined, in 1882 to June 29, 1897, when it was leased in perpetuity to the last-named company, which continued the operations to July 18, 1917, when the lease was assumed by the Baltimore and Ohio. Since January 1, 1918, it has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as part of the Baltimore and Ohio system.

Corporate History[edit]

The Home Avenue Railroad was incorporated August 28, 1871, under the laws of Ohio to construct a street railway from the corporate line of the city of Dayton, Ohio, to the grounds of the National Asylum for Disabled Soldiers. The date of its organization has not been ascertained.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The owned mileage, extending from Dayton to the National Military Home, Ohio, about 2.46 miles, was constructed in 1872 and an extension of about 0.69 mile in 1905. In 1914 a part of the track was taken up, making the mileage inventoried as of date of valuation 2.800 miles.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The entire property is leased to the Baltimore and Ohio in perpetuity, as stated in the report on that company.
