Indian Creek Valley Railway[edit]

Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of the Indian Creek Valley Railway Company, herein called the Indian Creek Valley Railway, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in southwestern Pennsylvania. The main line extends northeasterly from Indian Creek to Jones Mills, 18.899 miles, with a branch line projecting from Hutchinson to Mill Run, aggregating 20.112 miles of main track. The company also owns 2.889 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 23.001 miles of all tracks wholly owned and used.

Introductory[edit]

The Indian Creek Valley Railway is a corporation of Pennsylvania, having its principal office at Connellsville, Pa. The company is controlled by the Baltimore and Ohio through ownership of capital stock. On the other hand, the records do not indicate that the company controls any common-carrier corporation. The property of the Indian Creek Valley Railway has always been operated by its own organization.

Corporate History[edit]

The Indian Creek Valley Railway was incorporated May 21, 1902, under the general laws of Pennsylvania. It acquired as of September 27, 1906, the rights and franchises of The Youghiogheny & Ligonier Valley Railroad Company, and as of May 12, 1911, the rights and franchises of the Rockwood & Bakersville Railway Company, which had been incorporated April 23, 1906, and May 21, 1907, respectively, under the general laws of Pennsylvania.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The road owned, 20.112 miles, was acquired by construction. All of the road, with the exception of 0.59 mile built in 1915, was constructed during the period from 1906 to 1910. The foregoing does not include 0.184 mile of road at Indian Creek built in 1912 and owned jointly with the Baltimore and Ohio in Pennsylvania.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The Indian Creek Valley Railway and the Baltimore and Ohio in Pennsylvania own jointly 0.184 mile of main track and 0.245 mile of yard tracks and sidings at Indian Creek, Pa. This property is used jointly with the Baltimore and Ohio, as lessee of the latter company, without formal agreement.

Rockwood & Bakersville Railway[edit]

This company was incorporated May 21, 1907, under the general laws of Pennsylvania. No accounting or other records of this company were obtained. However, certain data indicated below were obtained from articles of incorporation and other documents on file. The records reviewed do not indicate that the company was controlled by any individual or corporation on March 21, 1911, the date of merger, nor whether it then controlled any common-carrier corporation. The company had not constructed any railroad property to date of merger.

The Youghiogheny & Ligonier Valley Railroad[edit]

This company was incorporated April 23, 1906, under the general laws of Pennsylvania. No accounting records were obtained. However, certain data were obtained from other sources. The records reviewed do not indicate that the company was controlled by any individual or corporation on September 27, 1906, the date of merger, nor whether it then controlled any common-carrier corporation.
