International and Great Northern Railway[edit]

Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of the International and Great Northern Railway Company, herein called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located entirely within the State of Texas. The owned property consists of three main lines and seven branches, and terminals at Longview Junction, Laredo, Houston, San Antonio, Palestine, Spring, Mart, and Taylor. One main line extends from Longview Junction, in the northeasterly part of the State, southwesterly to Laredo, on the Mexican border; another from Palestine southeasterly to Houston, and the third from Spring northwesterly to Fort Worth. The branches extend from Troup to Mineola, Overton to Henderson, Phelps to Himtsville, Houston to East Columbia and to Harrisburg, Navasota to Madisonville, Calvert Junction to Calvert, and Round Rock to Georgetown. Galveston is reached by means of a trackage right from Houston to Galveston over the line of the Galveston, Houston & Henderson Railroad Company.

The carrier wholly owns and uses 1,423.714 miles of tracks, which are classified in the trackage table in Appendix 1, and jointly owns and uses with other carriers 1.138 miles of tracks, undivided, details regarding which are given in connection with the summaries by accounts, also in Appendix 1.

Introduction[edit]

The carrier is a corporation of the State of Texas, with its principal office at Houston, Tex. It is controlled by the International and Great Northern Corporation of Virginia. The records do not indicate that the carrier controls any carrier corporation. The property of the carrier was operated by its own organization from September 16, 1911, to August 10, 1914. Since then the property has been operated by receivers.

Corporate History[edit]

The carrier was incorporated August 10, 1911, under the revised statutes of Texas, as amended, for the purpose of acquiring, owning, maintaining, and operating the property, rights, and franchises of The International and Great Northern Railroad Company. The deed conveying the property of that company to the carrier was executed by William H. Flippen, as master commissioner, August 31, 1911. The carrier took possession thereof and began operation for its own account on September 16, 1911.

On complaint of the Central Trust Company of New York, trustee of the first refunding mortgage of August 1, 1911, James A. Baker and Cecil A. Lyon were appointed receivers for the carrier's property on August 10, 1914. Since April 14, 1916, Baker has been the sole receiver.

Pursuant to the purpose of its incorporation, the carrier acquired at its organization the property, rights, and franchises of The International and Great Northern Railroad Company. Information as to incorporation and succession follows:
