The railroad owned by The Kansas & Oklahoma Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in the southwestern part of the State of Kansas, and extends northwesterly from the Oklahoma-Kansas State line, through Liberal, to Woods, a distance of 18.509 miles. The carrier also owns 1.174 miles of yard tracks and sidings, making a total of 19.683 miles of all tracks. The carrier operates that portion of its road extending from Liberal to Woods, a distance of 14.400 miles. That portion of the road projecting from Liberal to the Oklahoma-Kansas State line, a distance of 4.109 miles, is leased to and operated by The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company. The mileage is further classified in the trackage table appearing in appendix 1. The carrier exchanges with The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company the use of certain sidetracks at Liberal, Kans.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated March 20, 1919, under the general laws of Kansas, to acquire by purchase or otherwise, a railroad from Liberal, Kans., to Forgan, Okla., about 40 miles, and from a point in Oklahoma, approximately 10 miles southeast of Liberal, Kans., to a point near the Oklahoma-Texas State line, about 30 miles. The date of organization is reported under valuation order no. 20, as November 11, 1920, but corporate action, in the execution of its construction contract, was taken April 15, 1920.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road, all owned, amounting to 18.509 miles was constructed by The Liberal Construction Company, an affiliated company, under contract dated April 15, 1920. O. P. Byers and T. A. Fry are president and secretary, respectively, of both the construction company and the carrier. Construction began March 21, 1919, and the road was completed and placed in operation in sections as follows: 9 miles from Liberal to Archer, February 7, 1922; 2 miles from Archer to Pleasant Valley, February 25, 1922; 4 miles from Pleasant Valley to Woods, November 25, 1922; 4.02 miles from Liberal to Oklahoma State line, February 1923, to July 3, 1924, a total recorded mileage of 19.02.
