The railroad operated by the Kentucky & Indiana Terminal Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a double-track, standard-gage, steam, terminal, and switching railroad, located in Indiana and Kentucky. The owned mileage aggregates 8.298 miles of road, with 8.178 miles of second main track, and consists of two connected main lines with an important bridge spanning the Ohio River. One section extends from New Albany, Ind., across the aforementioned river, to Seventh and Magnolia Streets in Louisville, Ky., and the other is located within the city of Louisville, Ky., and projects from a connection with the first mentioned line at Thirtieth and High Streets to Thirteenth and Canal Streets.

The Ohio River bridge and approaches thereto are equipped with 5-foot gage gauntlet tracks in addition to the standard-gage tracks. The gauntlet tracks, comprising 1.264 miles of first main and 1.060 miles miles of second main tracks and 0.051 mile of yard tracks and sidings, are leased for exclusive use to the Louisville and Northern Railway and Lighting Company.


The carrier is controlled by the Southern Railway Company, The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Company, and the Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville Railway Company, hereinafter referred to collectively as the propriety companies, jointly, through ownership of its entire capital stock.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated August 8, 1900, under the general laws of the State of Kentucky, for the purpose of acquiring, constructing, and operating a bridge and also a railroad and ferry. The carrier acquired the property, rights, and franchises of the Kentucky & Indiana Bridge Company (third corporation), which company had two predecessors.
