The Kiowa, Hardtner and Pacific Railroad[edit]

Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of The Kiowa, Hardtner and Pacific Railroad Company, hereinafter called the Kiowa, Hardtner and Pacific, is a single-track line located entirely within the State of Kansas and extending from Kiowa to Hardtner, a distance of 9.929 miles.

Introductory[edit]

The Kiowa, Hardtner and Pacific is a corporation of Kansas, having its principal office at Hardtner, Kans. The accounting records were not obtained. Such data as are shown herein were obtained from records in possession of the Missouri Pacific. The Kiowa, Hardtner and Pacific is controlled by Jacob Achenbach, of Hardtner, Kans., and Ira B. Blackstock, of Springfield Ill., who were the principal promoters and who are owners of a majority of the stock. The records reviewed do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation. The property was operated by The Missouri Pacific Railway Company (of 1909) and its successor, the Missouri Pacific from July 15, 1910, the date of its completion, to December 31, 1917. Since that date it has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration as a part of the operating unit of the Missouri Pacific.

Corporate History[edit]

The Kiowa, Hardtner and Pacific was incorporated September 2, 1908, under the general laws of Kansas, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Kiowa, Kans., to Trinidad, Colo., about 350 miles, The date of organization was not determined.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The owned road, 9.929 miles, was acquired by construction. The records reviewed do not indicate how the road was constructed, but it was completed and placed in operation July 15, 1910.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The entire property is leased to the Missouri Pacific, for a term ending June 30, 1930. The terms of the lease and the rental accrued for the seven months ended December 31, 1917, are given in the report on the Missouri Pacific.
