Location and General Description of Property[edit]

Lewiston and Auburn Railroad Company, herein called the Lewiston and Auburn, situated entirely within the State of Maine, extending from Lewiston Junction to Lewiston, 5.426 miles.

Introductory[edit]

The Lewiston and Auburn is a corporation of the State of Maine, having its principal office at Lewiston, Me. It was incorporated February 9, 1872, under the general laws of that State. No accounting records of the Lewiston and Auburn were obtained. Therefore, no information can be given from its accounts regarding financial dealings, corporate operations, or investments. However, certain information was obtained from the records of the carrier.

The company owns 5.426 miles of single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, extending from a connection with the railroad of the Atlantic and St. Lawrence at Lewiston Junction to Lewiston, Me., which was opened for operation in July, 1874. It also owns 1.598 miles of yard tracks and sidings. All of its property was acquired by construction. The property has always been operated by the carrier, under lease dated March 25, 1874, effective March 10, 1874, for a term of 99 years. The lessee pays an annual rental of $18,000, or 6 per cent on the outstanding capital stock, and maintains the property.

The entire property is operated by the carrier under the terms of a lease dated March 25, 1874, effective March 10, 1874, for a period of 99 years. The rental consideration is $18,000 per annum, or 6 per cent on the capital stock of the lessor, taxes, and maintenance.

Under the several agreements between the Grand Trunk and the Great Northwestern Telegraph Company all the telegraph property of the Lewiston and Auburn, consisting of 5.43 miles of pole line and 10.82 miles of aerial wire, is jointly used. The terms of use and termination of the agreements were not obtained.

The company leases to a noncarrier company a coal shed and trestle at Lewiston, Me. The rental received for the use of this property is not indicated by the records reviewed.
