Location and General Description of Property

The Milwaukee Terminal Railway Company, hereinafter called the Milwaukee Terminal, owns and operates car ferries on Puget Sound in the State of Washington. In addition to its floating equipment, the company owns ferry slips and other necessary landing facilities, together with yard tracks and sidings, at Seattle, Tacoma, Bellingham, Port Angeles, Port Townsend, Port Blakeley, and Eagle Harbor, all in Washington.

The company wholly owns and uses 5.609 miles of tracks, all classified as yard tracks and sidings. It also jointly owns and uses with another carrier 1.225 undivided miles of sidetracks, its portion thereof, based on ownership, being 0.6125 mile. The Milwaukee Terminal Railway is controlled through stock ownership by the St. Paul. Its property is operated as connecting links between the St. Paul's owned main line at both Seattle and Tacoma, and the lines of affiliated companies terminating at points on Puget Sound.

It is controlled by the St. Paul through ownership of its capital stock. The records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation.

The property was operated by its own organization from July 1, 1912, until December 31, 1917. Since January 1, 1918, its common-carrier property has been operated by the United States Railroad Administration.

The Milwaukee Terminal Railway was incorporated April 8, 1908, under the general laws of Washington.

Development of Fixed Physical Property

The property wholly owned and operated by the Milwaukee Terminal Railway was acquired by construction during the period 1908 to 1914. This property is described as being numerous car ferry docks at Puget Sound ports in State of Washington with yard tracks and sidings at the following cities or ports: Seattle, 0.302 mile, Tacoma, 4.355 miles, Bellingham, 0.195 mile, Port Angeles, 0.110 mile, Port Townsend, 0.389 mile, Port Blakeley, 0.87 mile, and Eagle Harbor, 0.171 mile, total 5.609 miles.

In addition it owns jointly with the Northern Pacific Railway Company 1.225 miles of yard tracks at Tacoma, Wash.

Leased Railway Property

The Buffelin Lumber and Manufacturing Company of Tacoma, Wash., uses on date of valuation certain track material owned by the Milwaukee Terminal Railway. The agreement covering the lease of this material is dated October 15, 1913, and provides for an annual rental equal to 6 percent of the value of the material, which is stated at $883.36.
