The railroad of the Minnesota and International Railway Company, herein called Minnesota and International, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in the State of Minnesota. The owned main line extends from West Brainerd to Northome, Minn., a distance of 146.003 miles.

The railroad of the Big Fork and Northern Railway Company, herein called the Big Fork and Northern, which is leased to and operated by the Minnesota and International, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, extending from Northome to Grand Falls, Minn., a distance of 31.611 miles.

The Minnesota and International wholly owns and uses 185.984 miles of all tracks, and uses but does not own 38.706 miles of all tracks, which are classified in the trackage table in Appendix 1. The Minnesota and International also jointly owns and uses with other carriers 0.472 undivided mile of all tracks, as shown in the trackage table in Appendix 1.


CORPORATE HISTORY

The Minnesota and International was incorporated July 17, 1900, under the general laws of the State of Minnesota, for a period of 50 years, from August 1, 1900, for the purpose of building, maintaining, and operating a railway and telegraph line from Bemidji, Minn., in a northeasterly direction to the international boundary at or near Rainy Lake, Minn., together with branches and extensions, building a bridge across the river into Ontario, and building, owning, and operating steamers upon Rainy Lake, Ontario, and tributary waters. The date of the organization of the Minnesota and International was July 27, 1900. On June 29, 1901, the Minnesota and International acquired by purchase the property, rights, and franchises of the Brainerd & Northern Minnesota Railway Company, which company was incorporated under the general laws of the State of Minnesota on May 9, 1892.
