Morganfield & Atlanta Railroad[edit]

Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of the Morganfield & Atlanta Railroad Company, hereinafter called the Morganfield & Atlanta, likewise leased to and operated by the Louisville and Nashville, is a single-track, standard-gage line, extending in a general northwesterly direction from Providence to Morganfield, Ky., a distance of 25.345 miles.

Introductory[edit]

The Morganfield & Atlanta is a corporation of the State of Kentucky, having its principal office at Morganfield, Ky. It is controlled by the Louisville and Nashville, through the ownership of the entire capital stock. From April 1, 1907, the date the property was completed, to date of valuation, it has been operated by the Louisville and Nashville, by virtue of its ownership of the entire capital stock.

The Morganfield & Atlanta does not maintain any accounting records, nor does it file annual reports with us. Therefore, no information can be given from the accounts in connection with its finances, operations, investments, or original cost. Certain information shown in this report has been obtained from the accounting records of the Louisville and Nashville, as indicated hereinafter.

Corporate History[edit]

The Morganfield & Atlanta was incorporated under the general laws of the State of Kentucky, by filing articles of incorporation in the office of the clerk of the county court of Union County, Ky., May 6, 1905, and in the office of the secretary of state of Kentucky, May 8, 1905, for the purpose of constructing and operating a line of railroad to extend from some point on the railroad of the Louisville and Nashville in Webster County to Morganfield, Ky. The organization of the company was perfected May 9, 1905.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The construction of the property of the Morganfield & Atlanta was begun in May, 1905, and was completed and the road opened for operation April 1, 1907, from Providence to Morganfield, Ky., a distance of 25.345 miles. The construction work was performed by the Missouri Construction Company, of Cape Girardeau, Mo. It has not been determined that any affiliation existed between the contractors and the Morganfield & Atlanta.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The entire property of the Morganfield & Atlanta is operated by the Louisville and Nashville, by virtue of that company's ownership of the entire outstanding capital stock of the Morganfield & Atlanta. Nothing is recorded in the accounts of the Louisville and Nashville as representing rental paid for the use of the property of the Morganfield & Atlanta for the year ending on date of valuation.
