Pochuck Railroad[edit]

Location and General Description of Property[edit]

The railroad of the Pochuck Railroad Company, herein called the Pochuck Railroad, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, extending from Glenwood Junction, N. Y., to Glenwood, N. J., 3.424 miles.

Introductory[edit]

The Pochuck Railroad is a corporation of the State of New York, having its principal office at New York, N. Y. The only available accounting record of the Pochuck Railroad, covering the period from the date of its organization to June 30, 1910, was a cash book. The data contained therein were used as a basis for the opening of a journal and ledger on June 30, 1910, and were the only data recorded in those books on the date of valuation.

The Pochuck is controlled by the carrier through ownership of its entire outstanding capital stock. On the other hand, the records do not indicate that this company controls any common-carrier corporation. The property of the Pochuck Railroad was operated by the carrier from the date of its completion, July 1, 1898, to December 31, 1917. On January 1, 1918, the property of the Pochuck Railroad was taken over for operation by the United States Railroad Administration, which still operates it on date of valuation.

Corporate History[edit]

The Pochuck Railroad was incorporated April 23, 1897, under the general laws of the State of New York, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from a point on the New York-New Jersey State line, near the village of Glenwood, Sussex County, N. J., to a point between Liberty Comers and Wilcox, N. Y., about 2 miles.

Development of Fixed Physical Property[edit]

The owned mileage of the Pochuck Railroad, 3.424 miles, extending from Glenwood Junction, N. Y., to Glenwood, N. J., was constructed during the year 1897.

Leased Railway Property[edit]

The entire property of the Pochuck Railroad is leased to the carrier for an indefinite period from January 1, 1908. The terms of the lease and the rental accrued for the year ended December 31, 1917, are given in the chapter on leased railway property in the report on the latter company.
