The railroad of Portland & Southwestern Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located entirely within the State of Oregon, and extending from Boom to Camp No. 1, a distance of 10.773 miles. The carrier owns 1.782 miles of spur tracks and sidings, making a total of 12.555 miles of all tracks owned.


Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated under the general laws of Oregon in perpetuity. Articles of incorporation were filed with the secretary of State on December 29, 1905, the three incorporators acting in the interest of the Chapman Timber Company, now the Nehalem Timber and Logging Company. The principal office of the carrier is located at Portland, Oreg. The development of the fixed physical property owned by the carrier is related in Appendix 2.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The Chapman Timber Company constructed the road of the carrier ami also furnished the equipment. Work was commenced in the early part of 1906, and approximately 7 miles of road was opened for operation in the latter part of August, 1906, and the remainder, approximately 4 miles, in May, 1909. The Chapman Timber Company sublet the greater part of grading and construction of bridges and did the balance of the work with its own forces.
