Location and General Description of Property

The railroad of the Seattle, Port Angeles & Western Railway Company, herein called the Seattle, Port Angeles & Western, is a single-track, standard-gage, steam railroad, located in northwestern Washington. The main line extends westerly from Discovery Junction to a point beyond Twin Rivers, a distance of 71.511 miles. The company also owns 13.529 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 85.040 miles of all tracks owned and used.

Corporate History

The Seattle, Port Angeles & Western was incorporated January 20, 1915, under the general laws of Washington, to acquire and operate railroad property, including that in process of construction by the Seattle, Port Angeles and Lake Crescent Railway. The date of organization was January 21, 1915.

The Seattle, Port Angeles and Lake Crescent Railway was incorporated November 27, 1911, under the general laws of Washington as the Port Ludlow, Port Angeles and Lake Crescent Railway. Its name was changed December 19, 1911, and its property, rights, and franchises sold to the Seattle, Port Angeles & Western on January 25, 1915.

Development of Fixed Physical Property

The owned mileage, 71.511 miles, was acquired partly by purchase on January 25, 1915, from its predecessor, and partly by construction. The property acquired from the predecessor was under construction when purchased. The several sections were opened for operation as follows: Port Angeles to Majestic, January 1915 23.60 miles; Discovery Junction to Port Angeles, 1915-16, 38.20 miles; Majestic to beyond Twin Rivers, 1916-17, 6.77 miles; total mileage, 68.57. The mileage inventoried is 71.511 miles. Under a contract the St. Paul supervised the construction of the road.

Leased Railway Property

The Seattle, Port Angeles & Western on date of valuation leases to others certain track material valued at $16,764.43.

According to the company's report upon its corporate history, it has trackage rights from Discovery Junction to Port Townsend, Wash., a distance of 12.3 miles, over tracks owned by the Port Townsend Southern Railroad Company (Port Townsend & Puget Sound Railway Company, Lessee).
