The railroad of The Springfield Terminal Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, extending from a connection with the line of The Chicago and Alton Railroad Company to a connection with the line of the Wabash Railway Company in the outskirts of Springfield, Ill., a distance of 1.393 miles. The carrier also owns 3.044 miles of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 4.437 miles of all tracks owned, all of which it uses.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated April 22, 1908, under the general laws of the State of Illinois, for the purpose of acquiring the property, rights, and franchises of the Springfield Collieries Company covering certain railroad tracks.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The carrier's owned mileage, consisting of 1.393 miles of main-line track and 3.044 miles of yard tracks and sidings, was acquired partly through purchase and partly through construction.
