The railroad operated by The St. Louis, Troy and Eastern Railroad Company, herein called the carrier, is a single-track, standard-gauge, steam railroad, located in southwestern Illinois. The road is operated for freight service only and serves principally the coal mines located contiguous to its line. The property owned by the carrier consists of a main line extending from East St. Louis to Troy, a distance of 18.886 miles.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated August 16, 1899, under the general laws of the State of Illinois, for the purpose of constructing or acquiring a railroad from East St. Louis, Ill., to a point at or near Collinsville, Ill. The date of organization has not been ascertainable from the records reviewed. On October 27, 1902, this company acquired by purchase the property, rights, and franchises of the Collinsville & Troy Railroad Company, which was incorporated September 25, 1899, under the general laws of the State of Illinois.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The road owned by the carrier, 18.886 miles, was acquired partly by purchase and partly by construction, as detailed hereunder.

Acquired by purchase from the Collinsville & Troy, Oct. 27, 1902, constructed by that company, Collinsville Junction to Troy, Ill., during the period between 1899 and 1902 6.950

Acquired by construction, East St. Louis to Collinsville Junction, Ill., during period from May, 1899, to November, 1900 11.960

The construction work on that portion of the road built by the carrier was performed under contract
