The property was operated by the Denver and Rio Grande under agreement from the date the first section of road was opened for operation, August 14, 1914, to December 1, 1917. From that date to date of valuation the property has been operated by the carrier's own organization.

CORPORATE HISTORY

The carrier was incorporated January 24, 1912, under the general laws of Utah, originally as the Utah Coal Railway Company, for the purpose of constructing and operating a railroad from Mohrland and Hiawatha, Utah, to a connection with the road of the Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad Company near Spanish Fork, Utah. By an amendment to its charter, May 4, 1912, the name of the carrier was changed to Utah Railway Company. The date of organization was January 24, 1912.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The owned mileage of the carrier, 46.489 miles, was acquired partly by purchase and partly by construction. The years when the various portions of the line were constructed, and the manner in which the carrier acquired the property are indicated in the following statement.

The construction of the road extending from Thistle to Provo, Utah, was performed by the Denver and Rio Grande, partly on the right of way of that company. The line extending from Hiawatha to Utah Railway Junction, Utah, was constructed by forces of the carrier.
