The railroad of Wood River Branch Railroad Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in the southwestern part of Rhode Island. The owned mileage extends northerly from Wood River Junction, R. I., on the line of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad Company, to Hope Valley, R. I., a distance of 5.624 miles. The carrier also owns 0.712 mile of yard tracks and sidings. Its road thus embraces 6.336 miles of all tracks owned. In Appendix 1 will be found a general description of the property of the carrier.

Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated by special act of the Legislature of Rhode Island passed May 31, 1872, and was organized on July 1 of the same year.

DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

The property owned by the carrier on June 30, 1915, was constructed under contract and opened for operation July 1, 1874, Wood River Junction to Hope Valley, R. I., 5.624 miles.
