In this course, students learn to think like an ethnomusicologist about hip-hop culture as musicking. Using a critical teaching method, they challenge assumptions about gender, sexuality, and race in the patriarchal commercial culture and society at large. Students will participate in knowledge production and immerse themselves in critical thinking and participatory study.
