Emphasizes the entrenchment of the prison and a permanent prison class in the social, cultural, and economic fibers of the United States, doing so primarily through the perspectives of men and women who have experienced incarceration directly. This course has a seminar format, relying on student-centered discussion with minimal use of lecture by the professor.
