Planning

I'd like to see at least a few people show interest before scheduling a meetup. Possible date for first meeting: April 20, 2008? I'm thinking of somewhere on college hill, maybe at a coffee shop. --mikeu (talk) 16:11, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

Nov. and Dec. 2008

The first two Providence meetups are scheduled for Nov. 8 and Dec. 13, 2008. The location will be the Retro-Computing Society of RI at the Atlantic Mills in Providence. Directions. The wikimedia meetup is scheduled during the RCS/RI open house from 1pm - 8pm. We'll be taking images of the collection to illustrate articles on computer history, discussing other wiki topics and planning future meetups. --mikeu ^talk 14:03, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, we should probably pick a more specific time. I'll be there the whole day for the RCS open house. We usually order pizza around 5pm. Maybe we meet around 4-6pm or something? 2009 meetup dates

Please let everyone know what the best day of week / time of day is for you to attend a meetup. For Nov. and Dec. 2008 I have scheduled the second Saturday from 1-8pm. Are there other days that you would prefer? --mikeu ^talk 17:55, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

Fall 2009 dates?

I'd like to try to pick some dates for a meeting in Providence in the Fall. What days of week, time of day is best for everyone? Do you have a preference for location within the city? I was thinking of meeting at either a cafe/coffee shop or a restaurant near Thayer Street, but I'm open to other ideas. If there is enough interest I can probably arrange for a private location for a more formal meeting, at a place where we can have a presentation later in the year. Go for October 10 or after. I can make it then, because October 3 I have plans, and there is an NYC meet in September - and I don't think we should have conflicting dates.Mitch32^{(Want help? See here!)} 15:58, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

That sounds fine by me, and I agree about avoiding conflicts with other nearby meetups. It will also give us more time to get the word out. If we stick with a Sat. afternoon, I'm free either Oct. 10 or 24. Do you have a preference about where to meet? --mikeu ^talk 16:56, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

I have to think, I haven't been to Providence in almost 8 years. (Remember, I live in New Jersey, and am trying to make 3 Wikipedia meets and 1 non-Wikipedia meet in all of a month. Definitely not a coffee shop like Hartford. That's not a great idea. I would say look for a good restaurant, and who says the "Providence" meet has to be in Providence? At this point my weekends in Oct. are starting to look very full. Also, I have not seen much feedback from others who might be interested. I'm thinking of pushing this back a bit until we get some more interest. Why would it "help drastically" to hold it in another community?
