Suggestions[edit]

1. Limit the scope to Auckland Region. It shouldn't cover NZ because there is already a WikiProject New Zealand.

2. Changes references to Auckland from "the city of Auckland" to "the Auckland metropolitan area" to avoid confusion with Auckland City.

3. Remove "proverbial" from "the proverbial umbrella of the region of Auckland". I don't think the umbrella is proverbial.

4. Where is "the Portal"? Is it Portal:New Zealand? Or does "Portal" refer to the project page? If so, call it the project page to avoid confusion with regular portals.

5. The 3rd bullet point under Scope is incomplete. Nurg (talk) 04:33, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sweet, I don't see any problems with those changes, I can't do them right now because I have school, but feel free to make those alterations, well done for pointing those out btw. Taifarious1 19:20, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
oh, and the portal I was referring to is the new zealand portal. Taifarious1 02:58, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme[edit]

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme!  Done - I have updated the assessment section of the project. Taifarious1 00:36, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Templates[edit]

There are two templates: {{AUCK}} and {{WikiProject Auckland banner}}. They appear to be duplicates. Why are there two of the same thing?

I also want to create a subcat of Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in New Zealand for Auckland photos, though the template code looks unfamiliar to me. Richard001 (talk) 22:22, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Kiwipedians on Nightline[edit]

Crossposted from the NZ Wikipedians' notice board - Grutness...wha?'

Hi there.

I really, really want to do a little story for TV3's nightline show about the people who keep our kiwi pages intact on Wikipedia.

I am no wiki expert... so I'm just gonna leave my email here - and would love to hear from you, especially if you're in Auckland, as that's where I'm based. But Wellington and ChCh are good also.

Thanks heaps, I'd really like to hear from you

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for WikiProject Auckland[edit]

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Proposal for Article class upgrade[edit]

I would like to hear any recommendations for or against my proposal. Please put all your recommendations here please Talk:Auckland CBD

Coordinators' working group[edit]

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delivered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 04:49, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Thanks. — Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 09:51, 15 March, 2009 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement[edit]

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 04:09, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Auckland articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release[edit]

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the WikiProject Auckland articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Sunday, November 14th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of November, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

If you have already provided feedback, we deeply appreciate it. For the Wikipedia 1.0 editorial team, SelectionBot 16:38, 6 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion to rename assessment categories for this project[edit]

Greeting WikiProject Auckland, it was noticed recently that your project was one of 8 out of about 1660 WikiProjects that preceed the assessment categories with WikiProject. All the rest just state only the subject (ex. Auckland vice WikiProject Auckland). In an effort to standardize the assessment categories and make it easier to identify the scope of articles we would like to change the assessment categories of your project from WikiProject Auckland to simply Auckland to be in-line with all the others. Before doing this we would like your input on this change to ensure that it meets the consensus of your project. --Kumioko (talk) 16:35, 12 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merge inactive WikiProject as a taskforce of WP:NZ[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the proposal was procedural close. See my comments below, and feel free to contact me if there's a need to reopen this discussion. --BDD (talk) 23:17, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject AucklandWikipedia:WikiProject New Zealand/Auckland – this project is tagged as inactive since 2011, so it should be merged as a task force into a larger, active, wikiproject, WP:NZ, since Auckland is part of New Zealand. The banner {{WikiProject New Zealand}} would add a switch to activate Auckland {{WPNZ|Auckland=yes}} -- 65.94.78.9 (talk) 00:13, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Survey[edit]

Feel free to state your position on the renaming proposal by beginning a new line in this section with *'''Support''' or *'''Oppose''', then sign your comment with ~~~~. Since polling is not a substitute for discussion, please explain your reasons, taking into account Wikipedia's policy on article titles.
  • Oppose this becoming a taskforce of WikiProject New Zealand. WPNZ is divided by subject areas such as politics or music, but not by region. It covers Auckland as it does every other part of the country already.-gadfium 00:01, 16 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • Per my new comment in the discussion section, WPNZ already said it liked to merge in 2011... -- 65.94.78.9 (talk) 20:54, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
      • The appropriate action is to replace the defunct WikiProject Auckland banner in talk pages with a WikiProject New Zealand banner, or simply to delete it if a WPNZ banner already exists. No merger needed, and no taskforce.-gadfium 21:15, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Any additional comments:

This would be similar to other mergers of inactive subprojects becoming taskforces of larger more encompassing active projects. (such as for other cities in other countries, and for TV shows into WPTV.) This has been done previously by moving the project pages into a taskforce page of the larger project -- 65.94.78.9 (talk) 00:13, 15 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently someone discussed this in in 2011 and earlier this year at WP:NZ itself instead of here, which shows support for the merger, but no one actually implementing it. -- 65.94.78.9 (talk) 20:53, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • As bad as the RM backlog is, I'd prefer to see this discussion closed and have such a merge discussed on the talk pages of the relevant WikiProjects. The usual process of RM, soliciting outside opinions, is of very limited value here. If there's enough interest in an Auckland WikiProject, it should continue; if not, it should become a task force or subproject of WPNZ. Any moves that this may entail are technical incidentals, not the core question. --BDD (talk) 23:49, 3 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
BOLDly closing this. --BDD (talk) 23:17, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The above discussion is preserved as an archive of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal[edit]

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject X is live![edit]

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

missing suburb[edit]

What do you mean by missing? The article is at Southdown, New Zealand. -- haminoon (talk) 07:03, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The article Eden Garden has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability has not been established since it was questioned in September 2008. All footnote sources appear to be dead.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 10:14, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A new newsletter directory is out![edit]

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool[edit]

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Auckland Museum WMF grant application - Wikipedia & compulsory history curriculum[edit]

Kia ora koutou

At Auckland Museum we're looking at ways we can support local teachers, the GLAM sector and the wider Wikipedia movement engage with the upcoming local history curriculum. We are looking at a two pronged approach: enhancing Wikipedia with local history resources, and encouraging Wikipedia editing by secondary school students as a means of applied learning of historical method. We think this would be beneficial for the education sector, the GLAM sector and would potentially help to grow a new generation of editors.

To start this off we would like to commission some research to see what teachers themselves think about using Wikipedia, and we have put together a grant application here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/Wikipedia_and_the_Aotearoa_New_Zealand_History_Curriculum

We would really appreciate community support as we think this has huge potential. Happy to answer any questions or comments here, or my email address is on the grant application page. Ngā mihi. Jetaynz (talk) 23:30, 14 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
