Roller skating[edit]

Hello, I noticed the new project banner on the Roller skating page and just thought I would check in. I am a little concerned because roller skating, as a general topic, isn't an "extreme sport." However, some aspects of roller skating, such as Aggressive skating, absolutely do fit in the Extreme category. But roller skating includes more than the extreme parts of the sport, just as "ice skating" includes hockey and figure skating. :) The roller skating article used to be heavily biased toward inline skating, aggressive skating, etc., and I have done a lot of work toward making the article represent all kinds of skating and the history of skating, not just the extreme (and inline) forms that are more recent. So my worry is that if the page is part of the project, that the editing will start slanting back towards a biased presentation again. I'm also a bit concerned that the page has been listed here as needing "cleanup," when the page is actually in pretty good shape now (though of course, any page can be improved) -- does it need cleanup because it's not "extreme"-focused? I hope that's not what it's about. I think the aggressive skating page (among others) should be in the Project, and the roller skating page should be edited to make sure it is correct, but I am not sure the roller skating should be in the Extreme project since it is a topic that only partially includes extreme sports.

One more thing, though -- despite my concerns above, I think the project is a great idea and I am glad you are doing it. Thanks! ManekiNeko | Talk 09:02, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you. I appreciate the kind words. Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with you -- I just listed the articles I was most familiar with when creating the project. It took a long time to make that project page, all the graphics, and all the templates, so the details kind of got lost in the shuffle. Whether or not the article is included will probably not affect the way it is written. Even though the category is Extreme Sports, the writing style will still follow standard Wikipedia practices. It's just a means of getting a lot of knowledgeable heads together collaborating on a single topic. If you want to remove the tag from the talk page, go right ahead. I encourage you to join the Project though - we could use a good mind like yours. --Michael (talk) 18:55, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply -- I may do that. ManekiNeko | Talk 22:51, 4 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I joined, I removed the banner from Roller Skating (and removed it from the cleanup list here), and I added Skateboarding to the cleanup list here (the page already had a cleanup notice anyway!). I left Roller skating in the Extreme sports category which seems appropriate along with its other categories. I'll do some more later when I get a chance. Bodyboarding[edit]

Well, hi and thanx for creating this wikiproject. I´m very interested in extreme sports. As a bodyboarder I contributed a lot on this subject (see Shark Island Challenge and the many bodyboarding biographies around), and I had a lot of trouble protecting the bodyboarding article. I think the main bodyboarding article is a decent article, but it does not follow perfectly wikipedia guidelines (the introduction is too long, there isn´t a section devoted to the history and development of the sport). I do not think the article needs a clean-up, so I did not put it on the task list. If there were a sectin reading: Articles in need of some improvement (or something) I would have listed it there... By the way, I´m planning to make a complete rewrite of the article, but I did not have the got the time to do that yet! Loudenvier 02:47, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for joining! I've never started a WikiProject before, so I apologize in advance for the growing pains. (I've been involved as a member in the Philosophy WikiProject, so I've designed this one around their style.) Once we get enough members (10 maybe?), we can open up a vote for the Collaboration Of The Month. That's a really good way to turn a semi-decent article into a feature-status one. If there are any sub-articles to bodyboarding that should be included in this project (in your opinion), please place the {{WikiProject Extreme sports}} tag on their Talk pages, and make sure they are categorized as "Extreme Sports".

Again, thank you for joining. --Michael (talk) 03:48, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

'extreme' sports[edit]

Couldn't anyone think of a better heading for this subject? What is this, advertising for ESPN and the X games? How about a title that is not so stuck in the 90's? --Baoluo 04:55, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think these types of sports have always been classed as Extreme Sports. It would be inappropriate and misleading with any other name. --Churchill 11:00, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Any interest in reviving this group?[edit]

Just curious if anyone would be interested in reviving this group. Infamouse (talk · contribs) 16:33, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
