I'm assuming you're only allowed to cast a vote in favor of a candidate and not explain why you think a candidate shouldn't be elected since there's no section for Votes against XYZ under each name. LargoLarry (talk) 13:45, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can ask questions of the candidates, including making light of concerns, but the point here isn't to create a confrontational or adversarial space - ultimately, the candidates need to secure the community's trust as expressed in approval votes. How many coordinators does the project have? If it's 5 or more, why even bother with voting? If there are only 5 candidates it's obvious everyone running will be elected no matter how many votes he or she gets. LargoLarry (talk) 13:48, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is an excellent point; however, based on the election rules, new nominations may continue to be raised through the election, so there's no impediment to candidates eventually exceeding positions within the next two weeks. Additionally, candidates who cannot vet any votes will not win a position, regardless of the lack of other candidates. That being said, the number of coordinators is chosen in order to best function as a group and deal with the tasks set for them. In the past, spots which have been vacated or were unfilled have been appointed by the standing coordinators in a co-option process. In addition, some other projects have also co-opted coordinators for specific tasks or liaising roles; MilHist even has an emeritus position. Conversely, the coordinators can also choose not to expand their ranks if they see fit. At the end of the day, the group hopefully will choose whatever it deems most pragmatic to accomplish its work practically. Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 06:43, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
