Regional Changes
In 1956, there were only three regions in Ghana namely; the Ashanti Region, the Gold Coast Colony, the Northern Territories, and the Transvolta Togoland.
In 1957, the Gold Coast Colony was divided into the Eastern and Western Regions, and the Northern Territories became the Northern Region.
In 1959, the Ashanti Region was split into the Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions and the the Trans Volta Togoland became the Volta Region.
In 1960, the Northern Region was split into the Northern Region and the Upper Region.
