Question: Updating leaderboard[edit]

When updating the leaderboard, is it correct to just remove the 6th place person's information? Should I even update the leaderboard? Jonesey95 Twofingered Typist Miniapolis

Thanks! - TheMadDesperado (talk) 16:15, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes to all questions. If you find that inserting your name will cause there to be six people in a row, remove the last-place editor. And yes, all updates to the leaderboard are performed manually, by participants in the drive. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:52, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alternatively, you can comment out the sixth editor's line by putting <!-- and --> around it, so that they have less to edit if they happen to raise their ranking again. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 17:26, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Use of Gadgets[edit]

Hi, how do I utilise the gadget that allows me to see the word count? Jmartynski (talk) 15:00, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Try these instructions and post back here if you get stuck. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:56, 15 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've enabled it and can now use it, all my thanks! Jmartynski (talk) 08:46, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Question: How to remove article from to edit list[edit]

Hi I finished the List of Cayman Islands hurricanes and I want it to be removed from the need editing list so others don't edit it. What is the process for this? Gandalf the GroovyGandalf the Groovy (talk) 14:35, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help. Removing the {{copy edit}} tag removes the page from the backlog, and I've done that (and left an additional note on your talk page). All the best, Miniapolis 15:11, 17 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

New record low![edit]

Fun fact, we just broke the record low for articles in the backlog. The previous record of 118 was set at the end of the March 2020 drive. Great work, everyone! Tdslk (talk) 22:35, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Quick, someone go out and tag 8,208 more articles for copy editing so the Guild has work for another 11 years! Wikignome Wintergreentalk 01:30, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to hijack this discussion and also thank our editors for clearing another month of old backlogged articles (October 2020). Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 02:16, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well done! Lots to do on the requests page for those who are up to it. Twofingered Typist (talk) 13:18, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Out of "Old" articles[edit]

All of the September, October, and November 2020 articles requiring copyedit have been copyedited. In the past, we've added the next month to the list, which in this case would be December 2020. Since we have over eight days left to go in the current drive, should December be added? BlueMoonset (talk) 21:18, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. I think we can knock out a good portion of December articles by month's end. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 21:58, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea, especially since we don't want to encourage new copyeditors to work on GANs and FACs. I can't help wondering, though, how thorough the current GOCE standard is; it seems like articles are being copyedited much faster, although I'm not aware of complaints from requesters. Stay well and all the best, Miniapolis 22:48, 23 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. We've done this before, and it's helped to keep the energy up during productive drives. Also, it may make sense for more veteran editors to leave the backlog for others and focus on the Requests page. At least, that's what I'll be doing. Tdslk (talk) 00:09, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Adding a new month has frequently been done before, as all of you must know. I'm in the midst of a ~20,000 word article from the November backlog (i.e. backlog has been cleared but not actually done yet), so I might not be taking new articles for the rest of the month. Dhtwiki (talk) 19:16, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks all. I have updated the drive page. Please fix my additions if I made any errors. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:52, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE Requests[edit]

I have taken the liberty of adding January requests to the current drive now that December's have been completed.

Twofingered Typist (talk) 21:22, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know that this is necessary. Our goal for the drive was to get to all of the Nov and Dec requests, and if we keep moving the goalposts, we won't get to our goal (to mix a metaphor). I think it's fine to put a check mark next to "November and December" and light off some fireworks. January requests still count for the drive, and still earn a 50% bonus. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:51, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Jonesey96 I see your point. I've removed "January". Cheers, Twofingered Typist (talk) 22:14, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's been a while since I've read the instructions closely, and I forgot that all requests get the 50% bonus, not just the targeted months . Stay well (and warm) and all the best, Miniapolis 14:46, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Review Request[edit]

Hello, I was wondering if some of my edits could be reviewed. I am pretty new and would like to know if I am doing the right things. Please be critical; I am eager to learn :) Cheers. –ritenerektalk :) 21:36, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ritenerek I had a look at one the other day and left you a note on your talk page. I'll run through another one for you. Twofingered Typist (talk) 12:46, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
